Rytlock had several cubs over the years, with the eldest being the son Ryland Steelcatcher whom he had sired with Crecia. Rytlock got to know Rox of the Pick Warband from the time she was a cub, and learned of her superstitious beliefs and use of good luck charms and rituals. He used to explore around Grendich Courthouse, believing there to be treasure. Despite being of the Blood Legion, Rytlock also spent some time in the Iron Legion's territory in Ascalon as a cub. While in the fahrar, Rytlock and his warband mate Crecia Stoneglow often spotted ice elementals coming down from Shiverpeaks Pass in Grothmar Valley.
This band of striplings eventually formed the Stone Warband in the Blood Legion and was composed of about a dozen males and dozen females, with Rytlock selecting the surname Brimstone for himself. Eventually Rytlock and the other striplings banded together with him as their leader and made the bullies stop by teaching them "a few lessons." Since that time, Rytlock could never tolerate bullies of any kind. He was often pejoratively called "Runtlock", and his parents left him to struggle with bullies on his own.
